ABOUT the artist
Johanna Grahn Hollström lives and works in Gustavsberg. She grew up in Piteå and has studied at the Umeå School of Design (MFA), as well as Art and Crafts at Edelviks Folk High School. In 2019 and 2020 she was selected for Formex Design Talents and was also represented there at Li Edelkoort’s inspiration exhibition. Her sculptures have also been represented at the exhibition “The Archive” at the Old National Archives during Stockholm design week 2020, as well as the inspiration exhibitions “The Art of Living” and “The Villa” at Formland in Denmark 2020. Johanna is a member of KHVC, SKF Konstnärshuset and Värmdö artists.
ABOUT the exhibition
Metaphors, a figurative expression where similarities or internal correspondences paint a picture by comparing something with something else. A metaphor is intended to illustrate features of reality with other means of expression.
The sculptures in this exhibition symbolize parts of the life cycle between rest and waiting to awaken, to rise again and come back to life again. The theme is the important rest and recovery that eventually leads to a restart, energy and life. In a world where we move faster and faster, I reflect on the importance of stopping to reflect and recover energy. The importance of peace and quiet to create new energy.
I work sculpturally with stoneware ceramics, often with inspiration from nature, organic forms and movements that are transformed into more abstract, independent expressions. Always based on a feeling that I want to convey. My sculptures are dedicated to the interplay of the senses. Tactile. Sensual. Emotional.

We are a group of artisans who together run a shop and gallery under the common name 125 Kvadrat. In our shop you will find handicrafts made of glass, ceramics, textiles, wood and metal as well as jewelry in various materials, all made by us members.
