Daniel Fredholm has photographed in Chongqing, Shanghai and in many other places in China during the last ten years. His black-and-white images show a life going on in an ever-fascinating now, and make me think of photographers like William Klein and Garry Winogrand.

Daniel Fredholm’s pictures show a lively street scene from a contemporary China. On the streets, in the shade, in the parks, people sit and eat, talk, play mahjong… Sometimes someone looks up and meets the photographer’s gaze, but most of the time they don’t let themselves be disturbed.
Eating and taking a seat in the public space happens with a kind of self-evident naturalness that arouses both mine and the photographer’s curiosity.
