ABOUT the exhibition

The Picture of the Year has been organized by the Press Photographers’ Club (PFK) since 1942 and is considered Sweden’s largest and most prestigious competition within the genre of photojournalism.
The attention surrounding Årets Bild has grown to new record levels in recent years, which is also underlined by the increasing number of competition images and participating photographers. The composition of the jury is new for each year. The jury members come from different parts of the Nordic region and are included independently of each other. A moderator, without voting rights, is also involved in order to be able to provide neutral and in-depth information about the competition entries.

The main purpose of the competition is to promote photojournalism and draw attention to skillfully performed professional achievements in journalism. Årets Bild is a competition that also forms an informative link between the public and Swedish photojournalism. The winning photographs can be seen as a surveillance of our global contemporaries and a reflection of the times we live in through the global political observations they represent.

ABOUT the gallery

In 1996 Galleri Kontrast moved into the bank premises dating back to the beginning of the last century.
In the Great Hall with 8 meters to the beautiful glass ceiling we show the larger exhibitions and in the bank vault you will find an exhibition with our large collection of photographs for sale. In the entrance there is a bookstore with a large selection of photo books, many of which are signed, and there we also sell posters and postcards.

Galleri Kontrast AB is owned by Pressfotografernas Klubb, PFK and the operational manager is Mia Klintewall. Our sponsors and friends support us financially and the students at Nordens Fotoskola help us keep the gallery open.
The photojournalism exhibitions »Years Picture« and »Nordens Fotoskola’s final exhibition« are shown annually. In addition to these exhibitions, we strive to show photographers and images that are interesting from a photojournalistic perspective. We see the exhibitions at Galleri Kontrast as the extension and deepening of published reports. Often the exhibitions have a narrative or questioning theme. Our aim is to be a significant forum for documentary photography.
Galleri Kontrast also has extensive operations with “Photography for sale” . A selection of our collection of images for sale is regularly displayed downstairs in our smaller exhibition space 1 downstairs, and in between the works are shown on request. You can find a list of photographers whose work we pass on here .
During the 25 years Galleri Kontrast has been active, we have had time to show over 300 exhibitions. Take a look at our list of all exhibitions shown at the gallery. https://www.gallerikontrast.se/
